Family Processes in Child Rearing Strategies
Different family processes apply to Lareau’s discussion of race and class approaches. Individual class and race will significantly impact what type of family unit processes will be used in raising children. For example, a higher-class African American family will have different family processes from a working-class African American family. The same idea applies to the middle African American family.
The Family Processes Influential to a Working-class White Child well-Being
The family processes that may be significant to a working-class white child’s comfort are the time parent spent with the child, the nature of parenting behavior, and a good relationship with the parents. The failure of a working-class parents to spend time with their children will lead to a negative attitude. Children will grow up thinking that they are not important, thus, developing low esteem and poor school performance.
Family Processes that may affect the well-being of middle-class African American Child?
The absenteeism of a guardian, especially a father, may lead to a lack of role models. Lack of racial socialization will leave a child vulnerable to racism and discrimination. Lack of a positive relationship with the parent will lead to conflict and generate rebellious behavior in future life. Poor communication with a parent will ultimately lead to denial and might lead to psychological problems.
The Kind of Family Processes and Child Rearing Strategies in Your Own Home?
My parent strived to ensure that they spend enough time with the children in my family. To take an active role in my education mainly implied having all my homework done on time and ensuring that I was getting the best grades. When I struggled either with education or social life, they gave me help when I needed it most. Communication was essential, and my parents gave me room for making mistakes.
Author’s Incorporation of Race, Ethnicity, and Gender When They Write About Social Class?
Different authors have written about social class, trying to express how race, ethnicity, and gender can be strikingly diverse depending on the social class. Moreover, if people are based in the same social class does not necessarily mean they have the same experience as someone else of a different race, ethnicity, or gender. The authors try to merge race, ethnicity, and gender to show how complex social class is in our modern society.
Challenges and Benefits of Studying Class Independently Versus Looking in a Combination of Race, Ethnicity, and Gender
Studying independently creates room for getting the bigger picture of how the class influences an individual. There are no variables so that one can get the picture more quickly. However, the challenge of studying independently is that you cannot apply results to fit everyone (Williams et al., 2018). Studying in a combination of race, ethnicity, and gender will enable one to understand better how it affects everyone. The findings can be used in the real world for solving various challenges.
