In the study, the author examined the breadth of the application of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) initiatives in nursing curricula. The objectives of the QSEN are to enable nurses to provide an appropriate level of patient care at all levels. The author of the article mentions that a past study conducted in 2012 has increased awareness about the QSEN (Cooper, 2017). Therefore, the application of competency training is increasing.
All educational institutions participating in the study have implemented the QSEN training in the past few years. Reported introduction of the QSEN content “remained the same at 83% or increased its inclusion by 17%” over the past 2 years (Cooper, 2017). However, difficulties were noted, such as lack of attendance, interest, and attention from students. Competences were introduced in such courses equally. The teaching staff agreed that the QSEN is an important part of the educational process and implementation should be developed and continued (Cooper, 2017). As a result, implementation is effective, but there are difficulties in teaching.

Additionally, patients can be sure that the nurse will provide high-quality and safe service regardless of the situation.
It is important to consider that in the study, the author says that there was often a lack of interest on the part of the students of the program. I suggest that a review of the delivery of the program and, in some cases, of the teaching staff is required. Therefore, the program should be more interesting and captivating to get the maximum effect from the study.

In the modern world, every person periodically encounters representatives of medical personnel. At the same time, the further health and life of the patient depend on the quality and safety of medical services. With the implementation of the QSEN in the study programs, the patients and management can be sure that the nurse will be able to provide high-quality and safe service. Additionally, they can be sure that the high-quality can be provided regardless of the situation, as the nurse has the necessary competencies. As a result, the effective implementation of the QSEN can improve the competencies of nurses.
