Being involved in different academic contexts has improved my basic understanding of nursing practice by acquiring vital health knowledge. As a student, I have obtained sufficient knowledge regarding concepts associated with mental health. The terminologies have been expounded and elaborated on in peer-reviewed online materials. Mental health concepts have been useful in characterizing psychological attributes among diagnosed patients, such as tracking eating and movement behaviors (Rosen et al., 2018). Medical practitioners are expected to contribute to the practical implementation of the terms for therapeutic and safe surroundings. Information from the course notes that close friends and relatives of substance abusers with varying addictive disorders determine mental therapies’ implementation success.
Additionally, the knowledge acquired from the course has been instrumental in differentiating substance abuse from addictive disorders. Nursing case studies depicting patient cases have been critical in separating the two conditions using integrating processes, including diagnosis, treatment, and medication. The course, in addition, has ensured accurate interpretation of mental disorders using psychobiologic knowledge. The biological basis of mental cases is critical for guaranteeing objective and responsive therapies among affected persons (Rosen et al., 2018). Achieving this competency has been facilitated by adequate information acquired from peer-reviewed journals. Most importantly, this knowledge contributes immensely to nursing practical skills that enhance a patient’s recovery promptly.
Course information has also been useful in describing medical crisis management tactics required for providing mental health care. Successful strategies require integrating different medical practitioners, each with a contributory role to a psychological condition. A crisis management strategy is fundamental for mitigating an ill patient’s physiological and behavioral attributes after concussions or fatal accidents. The nursing care strategy is implemented within special populations depicting similar mental conditions. It is objective for healthcare professionals to identify common diagnoses and treatments among patients with similar disorders for delivering medical services to distinct populations.
